Obama on Apollo 11
Speaking to Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin in the Oval Office on July 20, 2009:
Obama says:
The country continues to draw inspiration from what you've done. I should note, just personally, I grew up in Hawaii, as many of you know, and I still recall sitting on my grandfather's shoulders when those capsules would land in the middle of the Pacific and they'd get brought back and we'd go out and we'd pretend like they could see us as we were waving at folks coming home. And I remember waving American flags and my grandfather telling me that the Apollo mission was an example of how Americans can do anything they put their minds to.
From Biography.com:
In 1967, the family moved to Jakarta, where Obama’s half-sister Maya Soetoro–Ng was born. Obama attended schools in Jakarta, where classes were taught in the Indonesian language.Four years later when Barack (commonly known throughout his early years as "Barry") was ten, he returned to Hawaii to live with his maternal grandparents, Madelyn and Stanley Dunham, and later his mother (who died of ovarian cancer in 1995).
Barry Soetoro (Not Barack until college) lived in Indonesia from 1967 to when he was 10, so how could he have been in Hawaii in 1969 to see the Apollo 11 capsules return to earth? Obama was born on August 4, 1961. He turned 10 on August 4, 1971, so he moved (back?) to Hawaii in 1971 - a minimum of 2 years AFTER the Apollo 11 splashdown of July 24, 1969.
